Panasonic Computer Solutions has today announced the introduction of two new ultra-thin and light semi-rugged laptop computers.

Now available for purchase, the Panasonic Toughbook T4 and Toughbook W4 models are the next generation of thin-and-light laptop computers designed to meet the needs of mobile workers. The new models both come standard with a magnesium alloy case, shock mounted hard disk drive, integrated wireless LAN, removable hard disk drive, 12.1-inch anti-glare LCD, wireless on-off switch, and docking connection.

Unique to the Toughbook T4 model is its increased battery capability, delivering more than 9.5 hours of battery life while weighing in at only 1.49kg. The T4 also features a sleek compact design with ergonomic hand strap and includes a touch-screen LCD. Utilising the included image rotation software should further make the T4 ideal for use while on the move, appealing to a wide range of industries, such as mobile healthcare and aviation professionals.

The W4, which features a traditional 12.1-inch, anti-glare LCD, weighs in at just 2.8 pounds, even with its integrated DVD/CD-RW combo drive. With a battery life of more than 6 hours, the W4 is built for mobile executives and active sales teams. Having said that, it could be equally useful in the conference room or on an aeroplane tray table.

Other technical specifications of the systems include a 1.2GHz Intel Pentium M processor ULV 753 processor, 512MB of DDR-2 SDRAM (expandable to 1024MB), 40GB HDD (shock-mounted and removable), 12.1-inch (1024x768 pixels) anti-glare TFT Active Matrix Color LCD with touchscreen, and Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG network connection (802.11a/b/g).

'Wireless mobility is now mainstream and mobile workers require durability, the highest degree of reliability and advanced functionality to effectively do their jobs,' said Rance Poehler, president, Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. 'We're pleased to introduce our T4 and W4, the thinnest, lightest additions to the most reliable line of laptop available. As a core manufacturer, we are uniquely positioned to deliver solutions and services that set the standard for quality. As a result, our customers benefit from the lowest failure rates in the industry.'
