APC RS 800VA - The Best "UPS" of 2005 Print E-mail

American Power Conversion's Back-UPS RS 800VA for India (named as BR-800 IN) can protect the equipment of everyone from home users to business owners, with 540 watts of backup power.

It features five surge-protected outlets (four with battery backup) and comes with APC's automated-shutdown software, PowerChute Personal Edition.

Unlike less-expensive uninterruptible power supply units, the RS 800VA also provides automatic regulation for undervoltage conditions, which offers an extra safeguard for expensive electronics.

The fully featured APC Back-UPS RS 800 can be placed on the floor, or on a shelf. Up to four battery backup outlets with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) enable you to work through even the most frequent brownouts and power sags.

For printer or speakers that do not store or process information, an additional outlet provides surge only protection. Both Ethernet 10/100BaseT and telephone dataline surge protection safeguards against surges entering via network connections.

The RS 800 has a circuit breaker, a definite plus when compared to the fuse that you usually find in this class of product. It?s a whole lot easier to reset the circuit breaker when it trips than to replace a fuse. The UPS supports lightning surge protection for your modem phone line and a network cable. The battery can be replaced when it wears out. It?s almost as easy to access as the battery in your stereo.

APC provides a USB cable for connecting the UPS to your PC, so that the bundled software Power-Chute Personal Edition can monitor power conditions and let you know the charge level of the UPS battery and better yet, shut down your PC after a user customisable number of minutes have passed when the power fails. If your PC doesn?t support USB, a serial cable is available upon request. The RS 800 comes affixed with a maintenance-free acid lead battery with a typical lifespan of 3 to 6 years depending on the number of discharges and environmental temperature.
