Top500.org released it's top supercomputer list for November 2005. IBM' BLUEGENE/L broken its own record again for the world's fastest supercomputer. Certainly something to note here is that four of the top five Supercomputer use linux.
CNET is reporting that the number of supercomputers on the Top500 list which use Intel Itanium 2 microprocessors has fallen by almost 50% in the past year. While new higher performance Itanium chips are in the pipeline, the article reports that 64 bit Xeons and AMD Opterons have increased their representation on Top500. |

Forget the outdated hacker image of a spotty anarchic teenager holed up in his bedroom defacing the Web sites of global organisations, today's hackers are not only older but more determined than ever to claim your cash and identity.
Many early depictions of hackers on the silver screen portrayed relatively benign individuals, such as Matthew Broderick's teenage boy in the 1984 film 'War Games', or Val Kilmer's young prodigy in 'Real Genius'.

US-based Planar Systems has introduced the latest in stereoscopic 3D monitor technology to address imaging applications in geospatial intelligence and photogrammetry where customers need 3D viewing to discern depth in the imagery and interpret spatial details.
The system comprises two monitors positioned at 110-degree angles separated by a piece of polarized glass which lets the image from the bottom panel pass through while reflecting the same image from the top piece. Too bad, you'll still need to don special glasses to get the full 3D effect. |

Google Suggest beta is a new tool available from the Google labs. As soon as you start to type something in the search field Google Suggest recognizes, a drop down menu appears under this field with several suggestions followed by the number of results available.
It's done with XMLHttpRequest, but the Javascript on the page has been highly compressed, so it's hard to make sense of.

The sleek, pocket-sized 770 Internet Tablet is Nokia's first Linux-based terminal product and is designed to offer convenient Internet browsing and e-mail communications over Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 802.11b/g) or BlueTooth.
The device comes with an integrated Wi-Fi chip for browsing the Internet and runs an operating system called Internet Tablet 2005, which is based on Linux and incorporates several open-source applications.
The 770 is much smaller than Tablet PCs that use Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, but like those devices it is designed to be used with a stylus and comes with handwriting recognition software. Tablet PCs are generally as large as notebook PCs and are used resting on one arm, but the 770 is more of a handheld device, measuring 141 mm (5.55 inches) long by 79 mm (3.11 inches) wide by 19 mm (0.74 inches) thick. It weighs 230 grams.

Something about this unusual clock/radio makes us smile. To change preset radio stations, you roll the magnetic ball to different detents on the top. Totally pointless, of course, but undoubtedly fun. And with its compact, 5- x 5-inch dimensions and ability to run on batteries, the Memory Ball clock even travels well. |
